Oghan | Stag | Crown Guardsman

Sired by the notorious Donnaghán, Oghán's life has not been easy.  Not only did his father's infamous return occur when Drustan fled the main herd but then Donnaghán entered the King Trials in a desperate bid to regain his crown.  Of course, the red stag failed and was sentenced by King Rafe not to death but to the life of a guardsman.  So it was that Oghán grew up, being told what his future should have been - that of a prince of Glenmore, not a lowly duke.  Still, the young fawn admired his father's strength and persistence despite his failed attempt at being crowned king even if his father's harsh training methods with his sons found the fawn acting as a buffer between himself and his younger siblings.  

When Donnaghán broke into Lord Carnarion's glade after Nuala disappeared, it resulted in his second exile.  They had no choice; they all renounced Donnaghán to save their own hides/reputation with the herd.  However, Oghán and his brothers would see their red sire again, as Donnaghán had made arrangements with Lord Ciardair to bring the boys to the mountains for a visit.  But their sire was unhinged and pushed them too hard; he lunged at Oghán's half-brother Kian.  Before he truly knew what was happening rage took over and Oghán lunged, only meaning to push his father out of the way so that he couldn't hurt Kian but instead unintentionally pushing Donnaghán over the edge.  Donn's tines caught the right side of Oghán's neck as he fell, gifting his dark coated son with a permanent reminder of what he had done.

Oghán believes he killed his father and has no idea that Donnaghán was instead cursed by Earrann and is in fact alive.  He has heard the whispers of a monster roaming the forests but has no clue that it is his sire.  After Oghán and his brothers returned to Glenmore with the promise of keeping Oghán's secret safe, the young stag vowed to join the guard when he was old enough.  At five years old, with his first rack grown in, Oghán formally gave up his title of duke to make good on his promise to become a guardsman and attempt to distance himself from the dark shadow of his sire, pledging his services to Prince Valen shortly thereafter.

The years continued to pass by, the stag's coat gradually darkening further and a luxurious mane began to finally cover the scar upon his neck that his father had given him before he fell off of the cliff.  A magnificent rack - reminiscent of his sire and grandsire - has caused whispers to circulate again but since he has had model behavior (as far as the herd knows, anyway) most seem to leave him be.  A stag of few words, he generally does what he is told when asked to the best of his ability.  While he has not been blind to the glances of a few does now and then during rut, he has not allowed himself to participate yet - both out of fear and out of duty.  While things have been quiet for the stag, his father's 'murder' by his own tines quietly eats away at him day by day, making him wonder how much longer he truly has in Glenmore before his secret is found out...
