"I bet they are in there!"  Ashlin jumped at the sudden outburst from her brother.  He had been quiet and sullen nearly the entire ride up but, as Ashlin had suspected, it was merely a tough facade - Aiden had been dying to finally make it to the cabin their grandfather had left for them.  Ashlin looked down at the small folder of information that they had been given, plucking out the one written in her grandfather's signature chicken scratch.  With her brother desperately trying not to look like he was frothing at the mouth (he was), Ashlin finally nodded in confirmation.  "Yea, it says here that they are in the stables."  No sooner had the words come out of her mouth than Aiden was off, practically running toward the small, red barn.

Ashlin chuckled.  The stable had been carefully locked to protect its young charges while the ownership transfer was underway and, without a way in, Aiden was going to have to wait for her to get inside.  She made sure to take her time in following him.

Finally, she made it and, with her twin doing his best to kill her with a look, she opened the heavy-duty lock that had been the door closed and stepped inside.

Despite it's rather ramshackle outwardly appearance, the inside of the small barn was well-kept.  It contained four large box stalls, all of which were fashioned out of dark-stained oak and black wrought-iron.  Large bay windows stuffed with comfortable-looking pillows had been added to the backs of each stall.  The sun, despite the snowy landscape that the windows revealed, shone down through the windows, creating a perfect sunning spot.  Ashlin smiled.  Her grandfather had never liked flaunting his wealth but, anyone who knew him well knew that he had lavish tastes.  It was just like him to turn a small, run-down barn into an ornate racing cat kennel.

A rustling of blankets and the squeak of a toy caught Ashlin's attention.  Her red-haired twin didn't miss it either.  Both of them rushed toward the stall on the back left and, peaking through the wrought-iron top in the stall, their hearts melting.  Blinking innocently up and them were two pairs of wide, curious eyes - one pair bright blue, the other golden brown.  Ashlin looked at her brother and her heart warmed.  He had a look of pure joy on his face.  Punching him in the shoulder, Ashlin teased him gently.  "You aren't going soft on me now, are you?"  Aiden shook his head and shoved his sister back playfully.  "Get off me, you witch."  

Grabbing another key, Ashlin unlocked the final lock that had been placed over the door.  The twins stepped in and shut the door behind them, both quiet in awe as they were overwhelmed with two, large bundles of love and fur.

Okay so basically the long-story short is that Ashlin and Aiden's grandfather died and the entirety of his will to his only grandchildren, the red-headed twins.  He was quite wealthy thanks to a well-played business venture and, although he could have more than afforded a more lavish lifestyle, he never dressed the part.  The only way people came to know how wealthy he was would be when they were invited to his secluded cabin home which, while plain on the outside, was just as elegant and well-furnished as any mansion home could be.  His latest venture, the racing of Shedu cats, had just begun to take root when he passed of an unexpected heart attack.  Ashlin and Aiden are now quite wealthy and, thanks to certain preparations their grandfather had made, they will remain so.  Which is good, since Shedu cats are quite an expensive hobby!  xD  Hopefully these girls will be successful enough at racing to keep the cash flowing! -dies-
